🩸 “The Black Phone Rings Again — and So Does Megan Fox”

New screams, strange merch, and the return of Something Wicked — this week’s horror news is drenched in nostalgia, blood, and bad decisions.

🩸 Horror Headlines & Studio Moves

  • Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 cast revealed — Megan Fox will voice Toy Chica, YouTuber MatPat voices Toy Bonnie, and Kellen Goff is Toy Freddy. The sequel, directed by Emma Tammi, is set to release December 5, 2025.

  • Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) makes its streaming debut on Disney+. A cult-favorite dark fantasy, it’s resurfacing for a new generation just in time for spooky season.

  • The Conjuring: Last Rites (the presumed final mainline Conjuring entry) is now available on digital platforms.

  • The Black Phone 2 promo gets creepier — AMC unveiled a popcorn bucket designed like a rotary phone, including a button that plays distorted whispers from The Grabber. It’s set to hit theaters October 17.

  • The horror-thriller Dorothea now has a confirmed Halloween theatrical release date.

  • ParaNorman is returning to theaters October 25–28 in remastered 2D/3D, alongside a new short, ParaNorman: The Thrifting.

  • A new novelization of John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness will publish this Halloween, giving fans an immersive literary experience tied to the original film.

  • 31 Days Of Halloween on The B Stream released a unique anthology for day 10 called Terror Tales: Poetry And Death Vol 1. Super cool film in my opinion!

🎬 New & Noteworthy Releases

Good Boy

This supernatural horror (from the dog’s POV) was released October 3. It’s already making waves for its emotional approach and unique angle.

Weapons

Zach Cregger’s Weapons remains one of 2025’s buzziest horror films. It scored a strong box office, opening with $42.5M domestically.

Cregger has said the film draws inspiration from personal tragedy as well as Magnolia in tone and structure.

More October Picks

  • Frankenstein, Shelby Oaks, Good Boy, The Osha Rule (Spanish supernatural horror), and other spooky season titles are among the October highlights.

  • On streaming: new horror entries on Prime Video, Shudder, HBO Max include O.T.H.E.R., The Substance, Bring Her Back, All Hallows’ Eve, and more.

  • On HBO Max right now: Sinners, The Shining, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and other horror staples/delights.

  • Genre blending & elevated horror continue to dominate — Weapons mixes mystery, surrealism, and social undercurrents.

  • A shift toward nostalgia & catalog revival is strong: classic films like Something Wicked… are being resurrected, and ParaNorman gets a theatrical reissue.

  • Franchises are circling for closure — Last Rites signals a final bow for the Warrens, for now.

  • Promotional creativity is at a high — the Black Phone 2 phone-bucket is an inspired cross between merchandise and experience.

👻 What to Watch This Week

  • The Black Phone 2 (in theaters Oct 17)

  • Dorothea (Halloween release)

  • Good Boy (newly released, theaters / Shudder)

  • Streaming rotations on HBO Max, Shudder, Prime, etc. (see above)

  • Special screenings: ParaNorman theatrical re-release Oct 25–28

  • Local / specialty programming like Noche Oscura: Mexican Gothic Terror Tales at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco (Oct 9–27)
